Packet Training Opportunity

Beginning in March, we are attempting to schedule BCARES member training on the 3rd Saturday of each month trough October. Hopefully this will help you to better manage your calendars and take advantage of the training sessions offered.

This month's session will be an Introduction to Packet Communications, plus workshop, presented by Mark Huff (KØLRS)

This first training is also to help members get up-and-running with their packet equipment. People should bring their radios and hardware, if possible. The goal it to make it work. All set-up questions welcome.

Please click on the date (March 17) in the calendar and 'Book' yourself into this training if you are planning to attend.

Thanks...........Jerry  (NØOUW)

If this is your first time using packet please review videos 02, 04, 05, and 07 (they start at the bottom of the page) at before the class to allow us more time for station setup.  Please bring your packet station to test or to help you get it operational.  We will also have BCARES packet stations to train on.

Announcing a BCARES training session for July

The session will be held at the Boulder County EOC and conducted by Dan Barber of the Office of Emergency Management

This training module is a requirement for the Facility Support (F) level of BCARES membership.

You can indicate your attendance at this session by going to the calendar on the main page of this site and clicking on Thursday July 24th. Follow the menu items for 'Booking' so we know that you will be attending and we can provide Dan with your name so he can create a login userid for you.

This web based tool is one that is critical in tracking all the activity by the various agencies in support of all sorts of Boulder County emergencies. One of the real benefits of this system is that you will be able to monitor the activities from anywhere you have access to the internet and will not need to call in for information or possible assignments.

Feel free to contact Jerry Schmidt (N0OUW) or George Weber (KA0BSA) with any questions.

While trying to schedule volunteers in response to the Boulder County Flood, we've discovered a large number of members who don't have current NCS qualifications. I would encourage all members, regardless of qualification level, to refresh your NCS qualifications as soon as possible. It just so happens that there's a net tonight at 8:00 pm on the 146.76 repeater making now the ideal time for a refresher.

The necessary NCS documents are available within the "Documents" section in the navagation bar to the right, or you can simply follow these links:

Please note that there is a typo in the NCS Self Evaluation and George Weber's email address should end in

By now, most of you should have received a packet in the mail outlining the new BCARES Certification and Credentialing Program (or C&C). The needs and requirements of our served agencies are growing, and, as a result, the board has developed a new C&C program that will help ensure that we're continuing to assist our served agencies in a safe and superlatively effective manner. If you haven't seen the letter yet, have a look below for a great introduction to the new process.
