Winlink Thursday’s are back

Just a reminder that Winlink Thursdays are back in 2022.

In this week's exercise, learn how to send a Weather Report in your area.

This just one of many ICS Forms that are available with Winlink.

Instead of signing up and getting an E-mail with the instructions each week, this year, they are just sending an E-Mail to remind us that the instructions are posted on the EmComm website You can find that website on this site under the training tab. This week's exercise says to send your message any time prior to Friday, not just on Thursday.

When you send your ICS message to the Clearing House for your location, you will receive a link later with a map of all the folks who sent in their forms. I am starting to see more and more hams participating from the Front Range and you will see all the locations from across the country that are participating.

Learn the basics of this powerful emergency communications tool in four, no-charge Zoom class sessions taught by four members of ARES Los Angeles -- KK6DA, W0DHG, NR6V, W6AH. Each 60-90-minute class will demo what you need to use Winlink over-the-air, and is accompanied by a series of video shorts you can review at your own pace. All classes will be archived at WAVETALKERS.COM to view again and again.

If you can do email, you can do email by amateur radio with powerful built-in EMCOMM forms to assist your served agencies. Open to all licensed amateur radio operators. Please feel free to forward to anyone or any group who will find learning the basics of Winlink a valuable experience from people who experiment with the future of EMCOMM frequently. We’ll cap it at a sizable limit.

SKYWARN™ Recognition Day was developed in 1999 by the National Weather Service and the American Radio Relay League. It celebrates the contributions that SKYWARN™ volunteers make to the NWS mission, the protection of life and property.

Amateur radio operators comprise a large percentage of the SKYWARN™ volunteers across the country. The Amateur radio operators also provide vital communication between the NWS and emergency management if normal communications become inoperative.

All SKYWARN™ spotters provide critical weather information before, during and after adverse weather strikes. This includes reports of rain and snow, ice and wind, storms and tornadoes, flooding and fire. This is our 24 hours to recognize all of the SKYWARN™ spotters serving our nation!

ARLX006 Annual WX4NHC On-the-Air Station Test Set for Saturday, May
29

The annual WX4NHC station on-the-air test will be held on Saturday,
May 29, 1300 - 2100 UTC. The WX4NHC operators plan to be working
remotely again this year as the National Hurricane Center plans to
maintain all CDC COVID-19 pandemic protocols until the end of 2021.
The yearly exercise takes place just ahead of the official start of
the Atlantic Hurricane Season, June 1 - November 30. Assistant
WX4NHC Coordinator Julio Ripoll, WD4R, said the event offers an
opportunity for radio amateurs worldwide to exercise the sorts of
communication capabilities available during severe weather.

"We will be making brief contacts on many frequencies and modes,
exchanging signal reports and basic weather data (sunny, rain,
temperature, etc.) with any station in any location," Ripoll said.

Participating stations may use HF, VHF, UHF, APRS, and Winlink, with
WX4NHC HF activity centering on the Hurricane Watch Net frequencies
of 14.325 MHz and 7.268 MHz, depending on propagation, and will
operate elsewhere as conditions dictate. WX4NHC will also
participate in the VoIP Hurricane Net, 2000 - 2100 UTC.

As for the upcoming hurricane season, Ripoll said, "Even if you are
not directly affected by a hurricane situation, please volunteer to
monitor and relay reports; just one report can make a difference and
help save a life!"

In conjunction with the National Hurricane Conference next month,
the traditional Amateur Radio Workshop sessions will be held
virtually on Tuesday, June 15, 10:30 AM - 12 PM EDT and 1:30 - 5 PM
EDT. The sessions will be moderated by Rob Macedo, KD1CY, Director
of Operations, VoIP Hurricane Net, with Ripoll.

To access the Zoom meeting check-in, use the meeting ID 844 9788
